The Tarewa Swing Bridge - A Bridge That Connects People

When the Tukutuki River Swing Bridge was destroyed in the 2022 floods, Central Hawkes Bay lost far more than a bridge.

We lost a vital connection between our communities, schools, families and one of the regions most loved walking and cycling trails. We lost key loop trails and connections.

The Trust has continued to maintain, with volunteers, a multi-styled & multi use trail system in Central Hawkes Bay. The trail network consists of limestone trails (45km), river berm single track (50km) & Gum Tree Farm Mountain Bike Park which has 25+km of machine-made trails.

Our project now is to complete the replacement of the Swing Bridge and to add faciities to its surroundings. Construction is due to begin shortly.

Our goal is to complete this project.
